UNESCO Category II Centres

Category II Centres form an important part of UNESCO’s system and are one of the strategic collaborators covered by the Comprehensive Partnership Strategy of UNESCO. They are dedicated to engaging in strengthening UNESCO’s strategic programme goals. They denote an effective partnership paradigm for programme delivery by contributing to the organization’s key areas. More than twenty centres work with UNESCO to provide an effective and unique contribution to the implementation of strategic programme objectives through capacity building, sharing information and research. Category II Centres are directly financed by the Member States they are situated. However, their reach progresses further than the borders of their state. Some are regional or interregional in reach whilst others are global and are organized around a thematic issue.
