Promoting Climate Resilience Through Green Campus Initiative

Pwani University launched the Green Campus Initiative on 12 February 2026, a sustainability programme under the Bioeconomy Educational & Policy Framework in Kenya (Bio-KE) Project. As part of promotion of climate resilience initiatives, Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) partnered with the university towards advancing this project and collaboration with NEMA, and the County Government of Kilifi. The launch was officiated by the Deputy Governor of Kilifi County as Chief Guest and flagged off by KNATCOM representative Ms. Nancy Mbugua with participation from the University leadership, county officials, development partners, lecturers, staff, and students.

The Initiative positions Pwani University as a living laboratory for green, circular, and bioeconomy practices, focusing on sustainable waste management, resource efficiency, and strong student and staff engagement. By integrating environmental stewardship into campus operations, teaching, and innovation. The programme aims to deliver measurable environmental benefits, strengthen skills and research, and contribute to Kilifi County and National Sustainability and climate resilience goals. #KNATCOM #GCI #UNESCO #ClimateResilience #Pwaniuni
