The Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) joins the global community in commemorating International Youth Day 2026 under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
International Youth Day is observed annually on 12 August to celebrate young people’s contributions to society and raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges affecting youth. The 2026 theme recognizes the diversity of young people’s experiences while highlighting their shared aspirations for opportunity, dignity, inclusion, peace and sustainable development.
The day provides an important platform for governments, the United Nations system, civil society, academia, the private sector and young people to engage in dialogue and action on issues affecting youth. It also highlights the importance of meaningful youth participation, inclusive policies, quality education, innovation, employment and civic engagement in building peaceful, equitable and resilient societies.
KNATCOM recognizes young people as essential partners in advancing sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Creating enabling environments where every young person can develop their potential, participate meaningfully and contribute to national and global development is essential for building a more inclusive and sustainable future.
As we commemorate International Youth Day 2026, KNATCOM calls for continued collaboration and investment in young people, ensuring that diverse experiences and contexts are met with inclusive opportunities.
Different Contexts. Common Aspirations. Empowering Youth. Transforming Futures.
