The Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM), in collaboration with the Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET), convened a consultative meeting of Kenya’s UNESCO-UNEVOC Centres on 30 June 2026 under the theme, “Knowledge Creation, Innovation and Sustainable Development in Kenya.”
The meeting was officially opened by Dr. Joel Ongoto, representing the Acting Secretary-General/CEO of KNATCOM, Dr. James Njogu, HSC. In his remarks, Dr. Ongoto underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration among UNEVOC Centres to enhance the quality, relevance, and sustainability of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Kenya. He reaffirmed KNATCOM’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships, promoting innovation, and coordinating national efforts that contribute to Kenya’s development priorities and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Held in a hybrid format at the Kenya School of TVET, the forum brought together coordinators from Kenya’s seven UNESCO-UNEVOC Centers to review progress, share achievements and lessons learned, discuss implementation challenges, and identify priority activities for the coming year. It also provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, promote knowledge exchange, and enhance coordinated efforts to advance quality TVET in Kenya.
A key highlight was the formal welcome of the Kenya School of TVET and Kisumu National Polytechnic as Kenya’s two newly designated UNESCO-UNEVOC Centres. Their designation expands Kenya’s representation in the global UNESCO-UNEVOC Network and reinforces the country’s commitment to promoting excellence, innovation, and international cooperation in TVET.
The forum was attended by representatives from the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre, Kenneth Abraham Barrientos and Giorgia Malandrino, who highlighted the mandate of the UNESCO-UNEVOC Network and outlined opportunities available to member institutions in knowledge sharing, capacity development, innovation, and international collaboration.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by the UNEVOC Centres to strengthen collaboration, enhance knowledge sharing, and implement joint initiatives that promote innovation and sustainable development in Kenya’s TVET sector. Participants also agreed to maintain regular engagement and leverage opportunities within the UNESCO-UNEVOC Network to strengthen institutional capacity and advance skills development across the country.
