KNATCOM Strategic Plan Launch

KNATCOM unveils Its 2024-2029 Strategic Plan

On September 12, 2024, the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) launched its 3rd Strategic Plan for 2024-2029 in a vibrant ceremony at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development. Dr. William Sugut, Director of Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education, officiated the event on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba.

The Cabinet Secretary emphasized the Ministry of Education’s support in the successful implementation of the strategic plan. He highlighted that the five-year plan addressed key thematic issues crucial for Kenya’s sustainable development. These include quality and inclusive lifelong learning, research, strengthening science, technology, and innovation systems, and fostering creativity and cultural expressions. These priorities align well with national goals such as Vision 2030, the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV), and the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Prof. Mohamed Rajab, the KNATCOM Board Chairperson, led the KNATCOM team at the event. Board members Dr. Kiprop Lagat, Ms. Florence Chemutai, Mr. Andrew Opiyo, Mr. Abraham Odeng’, and Mr. Hassan Duale were also in attendance. Other notable participants included Acting Secretary General Dr. James Njogu, UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa Director, Mr. Alexandros Makarigakis, former Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Kenya to UNESCO Prof. Richard Bosire, KNATCOM Programme and Expert Committee members, senior government officials, civil society representatives, KNATCOM staff and youth organization representatives. Prof. Peter Ngure, Kenya’s Ambassador/Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, addressed the meeting virtually from Paris.
In his remarks, Prof. Mohamed Rajab reiterated the Board’s commitment to providing oversight, leadership, and guidance to ensure the strategic goals and objectives are met. Acting Secretary General/CEO Dr. James Njogu underscored the importance of a collaborative approach in implementing the strategic plan and encouraged all stakeholders to join forces with the Commission.
