The Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Sara Ruto delivering the official opening remarks during the Conference

The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Education, is committed to joining in the global momentum and call to take steps to transform education for a sustainable future.  This initiative builds upon ongoing reforms in the country. To facilitate this process, the Ministry engaged in holding national consultations towards the development of Kenya’s Commitment in the  Transforming Education Summit (TES)  to be held in New York in September from 13th -25th September  2022. The summit aims to reflect on key components and action tracks in the education sector leveraging on the evolving discussions on transforming education and mobilizing political ambitions, actions, solutions, and solidarity to transform it. These consultations have been also informed by on ongoing engagements with stakeholders on Education reforms in the country.  The summit will concentrate on the following thematic areas;

  1. Inclusive, equitable, safe, and healthy schools
  2. Learning and skills for life, work, and sustainable development
  3. Digital learning and transformation
  4. Teachers, teaching, and the teaching profession
  5. Financing of education

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with partners finalised County and national consultations with education stakeholders in early August 2022.  The stakeholders consulted included learners, teachers, parents, headteachers, private sector, civil society organisations and the Youth TVET, Universities and those out of school. As a culmination of the national consultations, a national conference with key stakeholders in education was held on 26th August 2022 at Safari Park Hotel. The Conference provided an opportunity for stakeholders in education provide input the findings of the national consultations through panel and plenary discussions. The stakeholders were also provided with innovative opportunity to give feedback at the venue including through mentimetre and feedback corner.

The output of the meeting will be used to improve the TES report and statement.
